New Slussen Masterplan
Stockholm
When working at Foster + Partners (2010)
During my time at Foster + Partners, the firm, in collaboration with Berg Arkitektkontor, secured victory in a prestigious competition organized by the City of Stockholm for the Slussen masterplan, a transformative urban redevelopment project encompassing a vital area of Stockholm situated near the navigation lock connecting the Baltic Sea to the freshwater expanse of Lake Mälaren.
The visionary concept for the Slussen masterplan aimed to establish a vibrant, modern urban quarter at the heart of the Stockholm archipelago, while simultaneously creating a dynamic civic destination that would enhance the city’s cultural and social fabric. The masterplan was meticulously designed to deliver an array of new public spaces, an accessible and revitalized quayside, seamlessly integrated pedestrian and cycle routes, and striking new buildings, all while reimagining the existing infrastructure to mitigate flood risks and establish a cutting-edge, 21st-century transport interchange.
In my role, I spearheaded the execution of multiple design studies to explore and refine the strategic directions of the Slussen masterplan, ensuring both efficiency and practicality were at the forefront of the planning process. I conducted in-depth key user studies to understand the needs of stakeholders and end-users, and prepared compelling, detailed design presentations for the client to communicate our vision effectively. Additionally,
I took on the responsibility of overseeing the detailed development of critical components, including the Transport Interchange and the Hospitality Quarter, ensuring these elements were both functional and innovative. My involvement extended to shaping key design strategy directions, where I identified and capitalized on the site’s unique opportunities, contributing significantly to the project’s overall success and its potential to redefine Stockholm’s urban landscape
