International House
London
When working at John Robertson Architects (2013-2018)
The refurbishment of International House, an office building at St Katherine’s Dock, located immediately east of the Grade I-listed Tower of London and adjacent to Tower Bridge, involved significant upgrades. These included replacing the failing cladding and all glazing from the first to sixth floors, as well as enhancing external lighting to boost the building’s prominence. Internally, JRA oversaw the refurbishment to Category A standard, featuring a new entrance hall, bespoke lift lobbies, modern cycling facilities, and open-plan office floors. The project is crowned by a spacious terrace along the perimeter of the upper floor, offering stunning views of the city and the Tower of London.
As the Lead Designer (RIBA Stages 1-7), I directed the entire design development and planning process, guiding projects from initial concept through construction to practical completion. I assembled and coordinated the consultant team, steering the design process to successfully obtain planning permission. Leading a team of ten, I oversaw the creation of a detailed set of construction drawings. Throughout the project, I promptly addressed site queries and collaborated with the client and contractor to resolve design variations effectively.
